Vice President Claims Learning, The Hartford
I am a passionate talent development strategist serving The Hartford claims organization. I joined The Hartford in October, 2012 after holding a similar position at Progressive Insurance for over 12 years, training thousands of claims professionals. Because I have been involved in learning for 25 years in total, I have trained approximately fifteen Chief Claims Officers and one CEO who all started out as trainees in the industry. Our mission at The Hartford is to grow a highly proficient claim workforce at all levels. This enables us to succeed by growing the business profitably with a talented and engaged work force. In my tenure at The Hartford, the learning organization has received two patents related to performance and talent development; one for an employee badging and credentialing process and the other for a knowledge management support platform. We also introduced the concept of “learning labs” to bring intense practice on real work into the training environment. In 2016, we started a registered apprenticeship program. The program serves as the first U.S.-based registered insurance apprenticeship program, which was signed at a ceremony at the U.S. Department of Labor on Nov. 17, 2016. Through current partnerships and others in development, we plan to onboard 200 apprentices by 2020. I am a member of the Apprenticeship USA LEADERs group, Vice President of the Arizona Insurance Institute and a board member of the Maricopa County Workforce Board.
