What is Our Role in L&D?
This is a fundamental question about purpose. I don’t mean to ask “What do you do in L&D?” although we often get the two questions confused. Designers can see the role of L&D as creating content. Technologists may think it centers on distributing that content. Instructors can think that we’re all about instruction.
These may be valuable activities, but they don’t address this question about purpose. The answer to the question lies not in what we do, but in what we make possible. And I believe there is only one answer to this question:
L&D helps individuals and organizations fulfil their potential.
This is what gets me out of bed in the morning every day to build a better, smarter, more able, Learning and Development profession.
Do you agree? What do you believe our role is?
